Good writing persuades.
It informs. It tells a story.
Good writing can do
whatever you want it to do.
With my help, you can
communicate with your readers
with confidence.
I can research and develop
your text from scratch,
fine-tune it, or simply critique it.
Expect quality, attention to
detail, and professionalism.
Don't settle for less —
because your audience won't.

Testimonials
“Mark has exceptional strategic communications skills. His contributions to the research process and final report were critical to the delivery of a quality product that has been disseminated at the national level. His writing and editing skills were instrumental in the delivery of a polished product.
Mark has a sharp eye for detail and his knowledge and experience shine through in his standards for high-quality work.
I would not hesitate to work with Mark again, and would happily recommend him for other projects.”

"I've known Mark for over twenty years, and we've collaborated on projects on many occasions. I can rely on him to produce great work every time, on time. I've primarily called on him to apply his writing, editing and proofreading skills to my arts grant applications, and to my web content (e.g., for the Render Festival, for The Automatic Message's art projects, and for my professional photography site). Even when I've asked him to jump in at the eleventh hour to help me meet a deadline, he’s always done so with a smile.
Of particular value to me is Mark's ability to take a loose collection of my ideas and shape them into a cohesive statement that communicates my intent clearly and coherently. That, and his aptitude for rephrasing text economically to comply with word-count limits – without losing any of the meaning."

Experience
Private Sector
Mark has worked as a business analyst for the telecommunications industry, where he wrote business cases, reports, and technical manuals for software; he also produced Requests for Proposals and developed documents and forms for a nascent Program Management Office. His attention to detail and his ability to disambiguate sentences led to him being tasked with amending and redeveloping contracts for projects valued up to $50,000,000 each.
As a freelance business consultant, Mark has written reports for Innovation BC and SFU Public Square, assisted in the development of a five-year plan for the BCIT School of Business, and performed market research analysis for the University of Waterloo. He has also edited a report for the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction, proofed and edited web content, and produced grant applications.
Public Sector
In the public sector, Mark's work as a policy analyst and researcher for two branches of Environment Canada included producing policy briefs, backgrounders, economic analyses, summaries and reports. He also co-authored a research report commissioned by the BC Ministry of Environment.
Earlier in his career, Mark created two upper-level undergraduate courses. The first –which he also taught– was for the University of British Columbia. The second was a bespoke course for the US Center for Cognitive Liberty and Ethics that has since been taught internationally. He went on to refine his writing skills while teaching English in South Korea and Canada so that he could deliver high-quality education to his students.
